Gered Mankowitzs iconic photography is familiar to millions worldwide.
Mankowitz worked closely with record producer Andrew Loog-Oldham and became his unofficial photographer, accompanying the Rolling Stones on their 1965 US tour as well as shooting their early album covers and publicity material.
The Briton has since created defining portraits of Jimi Hendrix, the Eurythmics and many other rock stars--Elton among them--throughout five decades. Some of his images are in the permanent collection of Londons National Portrait Gallery.
In September, the artist's new book, 50 Years of Rock and Roll Photography, is coming out.
Gered told this Web site: ''There are two spreads on Elton in it - the Greatest Hits Vol 2 image, plus images from the Leather Jackets and the Live in Australia albums.''
