Looking to cash in on the consumer craze for downloading cellphone ringtones, indebted media giant Vivendi Universal has set up a new joint venture to sell music products for mobile phones.
Songs and clips from Eminem, Elton John, U2
and other
Universal Music artists will be sold to mobile phone operators in the form of ringtones, logos, greetings and other products, Vivendi said in a statement on Monday.
The new service -- a joint venture between Vivendi's Universal Music International and Vivendi Universal Net units -- will kick off in six European markets: Britain, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain and Italy.
