Tim McGraw will join Elton to open the 30th annual American Music Awards on January 13, 2003, with a special duet of Elton and Bernie Taupin's Tiny Dancer.
Graw used the song as the opening number on his last tour. It was met with such a tremendous response that the superstar recorded it for his just-released new album, Tim McGraw And The Dancehall Doctors. Tiny Dancer is also featured on Elton John: Greatest Hits 1970-2002, a two-CD set of 34 songs, which was released last month.
When McGraw found out last week that he had received a nomination for this year's awards and an invitation to perform on the show, he had an idea. A conversation with his management led to a phone call to Elton, who immediately agreed to the duet.
"What a fantastic way to start off our 30th anniversary show," said Dick Clark, executive producer of the show. "I wish I could leave my backstage post at the producers' table and grab a seat out front for this one."
The American Music Awards will be broadcast live January 13, 2003, on ABC-TV.
