Elton tops dance charts for first time ever

Monday 5 January 2004 @ 4:57 - GMT

Congratulations to Elton for topping the dance charts - for the first time ever.

Elton, no novice to dance songs, like Bite Your Lip, Get Up and Dance in 1976, Are You Ready For Love in 1977, 1979 and 2003, and the Victim of Love disco LP in 1979, has taken Are Your Ready For Love to the top of the charts again!

Elton, who made his debut on The Billboard Hot 100 in August 1970 with Border Song, has finally added a number one on the Billboard Hot Dance/Club Play chart in the first week of 2004.

In 1977, Elton went into the studio with American producer Thom Bell to record three songs. One of those, Mama Can't Buy You Love, peaked at No. 9 in 1979. Another, Are You Ready for Love, was released in the U.K. in 2003, and topped the British pop singles chart in late August 2003.

An edited version also made it to number two in the UK dance charts before waning in July 2003.

Now issued in the U.S. on Southern Fried/Ultra, Are You Ready for Love moved from position two to one on the Hot Dance/Club Play chart the first week of 2004. Since this chart was introduced in 1976, Elton never previously topped that chart - until now.

Are You Ready for Love is Elton's biggest Club Play hit since April 1994, when a Valentine's Day remake of Don't Go Breaking My Heart, with duet partner RuPaul was a monster hit and peaked at number 3.

Don't Go Breaking My Heart was originally a number one UK pop single in 1976 with Kiki Dee as Elton's duet partner.

We hope that wasn't all too confusing for you! So many remakes and so many hits! We so excited, and we just can't hide it!
