Two Showbiz Legends Take Part in NHS PSA

Written by Chief Editor.

Elton and Michael Caine have appeared in an NHS ad, urging the public to get vaccinated against coronavirus. The video comes as the NHS is urging those who are 70 or older to get the shot.

Styled as an audition to see who will star in the official advert, the video shows Elton being told that he needs to be a ''little less'' and a ''little more'' showbiz as he introduces himself.

''The more people in society that get vaccinated, the more chance there is of eradicating the national Covid pandemic,'' explains the 73-year-old. ''It's really important to know that the vaccines have all been through and met the necessary safety and quality standards.''

In the video, shot at London's Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, after apparently receiving the injection, Elton references I'm Still Standing by saying, ''As you can see, I'm still standing, yeah, yeah, yeah.'' The director then says, ''Thanks, Elton, we will let you know,'' with the pop luminary responding, ''Well, at this short notive, you won't find anyone bigger.''

Michael Caine follows, pointing out that the shot doesn't hurt. ''Not many people know that.''

The campaign's co-ordinator, Professor Lord Ara Darzi, who is co-director of the Institute of Global Health Innovation at Imperial College London, believes Elton and Michael are the perfect people for the advert.

''I asked them to take part and they were extremely generous in giving us the time to do this, and I hope it does the job in convincing the population that vaccines for Covid is the best way out of this pandemic. They were extremely keen to help in any way possible. They're humorous and engaging and I think many people who have had to thoughts about this will think again.''

He also noted that the entertainers are ''trusted faces'' who are ''loved by the public.''
