''Lion King'' Sets Record Down Under

Written by Chief Editor.

As announced previously, the Lion King musical will premiere in New Zealand for the first time on the 24th of June--after being on hiatus for over a year due to Covid. The internationally-toured live version of Disney's movie, featuring songs by Elton and Tim Rice, is set to open at Auckland's Spark Arena.

The Lion King now holds the record as the fastest-selling musical theatre show in New Zealand of all time, with over 84,000 tickets sold in the first five weeks.

Producer for the International Tour, Michael Cassel, commented: ''The response to The Lion King's premiere in New Zealand has been phenomenal. Rehearsals with our incredible cast and crew are underway and we've looking forward to welcoming audiences to Spark Arena.''

Michael Coppel, Live Nation's Asia Pacific chairman, said: ''Spark Arena can't wait to host this incredible live experience--and we're delighted to have broken records with its sale. We look forward to welcoming audiences, and seeing the positive impacts it will bring to our local tourism and hospitality sectors.''

The engagement runs through the 18th of July.
