Elton appeared in a chartreuse suit last evening at the base of the Eiffel Tower to ask for ''love and solidarity'' during his Global Citizen Live appearance.
He told the audience: ''I have spent most of my life fighting the AIDS pandemic, and we made great progress for two reasons: one. we've always followed the science, two, we've put our arms around everyone to make sure no one gets left behind. These same lessons apply equally to the Covid pandemic. While most here today have been vaccinated against Covid, only four percent in Africa are. We must not leave anyone behind.''
He went on to urge people to donate to the Go Give One vaccine equity campaign by the WHO Foundation. ''Showing this love and solidarity for others during Covid, like we've done with AIDS, is how we'll make a better future.''
Elton sang Tiny Dancer, Your Song, and Rocket Man. He was also joined by Charlie Puth for their new song, After All.
Last December, the philanthropist was honoured at with the Global Citizen Artist of the Year Prize for his efforts to eradicate AIDS through the EJAF.
Today from 3-7 p.m. ET, FX is to run a Global Citizen Live compilation special. From 7-8 p.m. ET, ABC will offer highlights as well: Elton, BTS, Jennifer Lopez, and Lizzo will be among those showcased.
