''Production Gems'' Preview

Written by Chief Editor.

Elton has called Gus Dudgeon ''kind of another member of the band.''

He also remembers: ''If you'd written a song, he would always say: 'Well, maybe you should put a chorus and a verse here, instead of what you're currently doing.' He was incredibly intuitive.''

Bernie Taupin thinks the producer ''crafted the best-sounding records of the 70s'' which ''still resonate to this day.''

Kiki Dee commented: ''He was always interested in things that weren't necessarily the biggest and the most commercial. He was very, very musical, and not just interested in the things that made the big bucks.''

The above is a sampling of what's inside Gus Dudgeon Production Gems. Rod Argent, Rick Wakeman, Colin Blunstone, and Paul Gambaccini are some of the others who have contributed notes.

As mentioned previously, Production Gems is a unique tribute album to the late producer which includes photos and three of Elton's songs. It's out today, but fans have an opportunity to try to win a copy.
