Piano Player's Salute to Liverpool

Written by Chief Editor.

Last night, Elton told his Anfield audience they have a beautiful city, stadium and heart.

He was performing at the home of Liverpool FC, where attendees included Kenny Dalglish

The songwriter told him: ''I love you dearly, thank you for being an inspiration,'' before dedicating Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me to the former Reds' player and manager.

Elton informed the audience that he first played Liverpool in 1971 at the Philharmonic Hall. He said he was looking forward to playing here as it was ''like a piece of history for us. I last came here with my dad when I was chair of Watford and haven't been back since, so I was determined to play a good show for you tonight.''

According to liverpoolecho.co.uk/johns-tribute, the crowd was ''rapturous,'' with many wearing ''Elton-esque sunglasses and Dodger-style baseball outfits.''
