EJW was saddened to learn of the Gulf Coast’s recent devastation, wrought by Hurricane Katrina. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and survivors, and this is obviously the case with many around the world.

At least 20 countries have offered to help, and VH1 reports that the dowload site Napster also will contribute. They have a “Download to Donate” program, pledging 100 percent of the profits from a custom compilation of songs to the American Red Cross. Among the selections on the compilation are tracks Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me. Sade, Louis Armstrong, and Harry Connick, Jr. (who has helped organise a concert tonight on NBC at 8 p.m. Eastern time) are among the other artists.
