Elton will be presented with the Brits ICON Award on the second of September.

This comes ahead of the Brit Awards ceremony, taking place on February 19, 2014.
“It’s a tremendous honour and a real thrill for me to have my work acknowledged in this way, and I’m really looking forward to participating in what promises to be a very special occasion,” the pop maestro stated.

Brit Awards chief executive Geoff Taylor added: “The Brit Awards has recognised many exceptional artists whose music has connected with millions of fans. A few of these artists, such as Sir Elton John, have achieved such a level of artistic creativity and originality, critical acclaim, global recognition and popular success that they deserve to be recognised as true Icons of our cultural life.”

UK fans will get to see the special event with Elton on ITV on September 13. Dermot O’Leary is presenting the accolade.
The TV special will include a live performance from Sir Elton of some of his best-loved songs as well as new material from his forthcoming album The Diving Board; combined with a candid interview and a special guest appearance, the show will be a spectacular tribute to his remarkable journey to become a revered British musical icon.
