Lion roars in England, and LA

The first night audience at London’s Lyceum Theatre gave the hit musical The Lion King a standing ovation on October 19, 1999. Elton and Tim Rice were among the guests on opening night.


Advance sales for the London staging have already topped £10 million and the Lyceum Theatre reports bookings for the next few years!

Also, Walt Disney staged a Gala Charity Preview of The Lion King musical in London on October 6, 1999. Tickets were from £20 each.


Meanwhile, Lion King To Pounce On LA


Walt Disney said The Lion King will begin performances at

Los Angeles’ Pantages Theater September 28, 2000 and play a limited engagement through June 30, 2001.


The Los Angeles production will be the first U.S. production outside of New York and the fifth production worldwide after Tokyo, Osaka, London and Toronto (opening April 2000).
