Report by George Matlock, editor

Lunch Around the World was a major success in London on July 3, 2004.

Although the number of fans able to attend was not so high, and a few people who reserved were unable to make it to this hard-to-find venue, eltonjohnworld is delighted to report that on the door and through a small auction of items were raised £194.50 for the Elton John AIDS Foundation.

Youn g fan Chloe and editor George MatlockThe figure is an initial estimate, based on a July 4 conversion rate of euros to sterling, as we had a few overseas fans from Germany and Ireland. The figure includes a generous donation for our singer guest, Jonathan Kane, but excludes the kind offer to donate to the event from one or two fans unable to arrive.

We will report later a final figure from the event.

The auction consisted of a concert poster from Elton’s recent gig in Bergerac, France, the Susan Black biographical paperback book and a limited edition Hard Rock Cafe Singapore pin badge featuring Elton.

We thank webmaster Fran Gilles for these items for auction.

We were delighted that so many people joined in the event in a show of solidarity with the charity we were backing. There were a few fans from the Hercules club that I used to belong to and all of them were most warmly welcome.

Jonathan Kane, Chloe and her fatherJonathan came belting the hits and I was made to sing high-pitch Kiki Dee and George Michael. Other fans took to the mic too, including a brave brithday girl called Chloe Fountain who had a try at Crocodile Rock, the eight-year-old’s faourite tune.

The All Noodle Bar told me that in terms of most requested songs, ABBA were number one, but Elton was a triumphant second!

The rain stayed away for most of the event and no one got soaked finding us.

We have resolved to hold another event before long and will advise you of some great plans in the works.

Thanks again to all of you who made the day special, and to those of you who still decided to donate if you could not make it in person.

We also thank the All Noodle Bar for preparing a great meal of noodles and other treats. If you are ever passing by, drop in for some!

Photos of the event will be updated to this story in the next day or two.

And if you took some photos yourself, I do hope you will email us the photos to:
