Mackay, the first stop of Elton’s Australian tour, is  celebrating by offering numerous activities.

There’s an Everything Elton Light Up Display.  Once the sun goes down, Wood Street (between Victoria and River streets) will light up the night with colourful displays.  Inspired by Sir Elton, light displays will be projected onto buildings within the area, trees will turn pink and yellow, and Wood Street park will look like it’s never looked before.

The Light-up Display will be on show:

  • Thursday, September 21, from 6.30 p.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Friday, September 22, from 6.30 p.m. to midnight
  • Saturday, September 23, from 6.30 p.m. –to 10 p.m.
On Saturday–the day after Elton’s concert–a street festival will be held.  Visit Wood Street (between Gordon and Victoria streets) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for the Still Standing Street Party. It will include a “Countdown-inspired” live broadcast from Jay & Dave at Triple M; best dressed competition; roving performers; kids craft stalls’ free facepainting; quirky photoboard and photobooth; as well as EJ concert footage on the large LCD screen.
Samantha Self, with the Mackay Regional Council, also has informed this Web site that an Elton-themed mural was unveiled yesterday–along with a Yellow Brick Road.
