Despite Christmas shopping taking some away, fans gathered for a small event at Elton’s former drummer Roger Pope‘s new tearooms on December 14, 2002.

Irrepressible Roger was full of seasonal banter, receiving fans, and even took an opportunity to have his photo taken with the new Radio Times which featured Elton on the front cover and advertised that evening’s BBC TV transmission of an hour of Elton live at the Royal Opera House in London, recorded December 1, 2002.

It was a case of Songs From the South Coast.

Roger also played a new CD he received in the post as a more creative version of a Christmas card, from former Elton guitarist Caleb Quaye. The CD features Caleb playing guitar and singing – yes singing – recently. Something of an ear-opener, since Caleb became a clergyman some years back.

The event was sponsored by Elton Events, a subsidiary of

Roger is also chuffed to have his photo recognised in the Elton John:Greatest Hits 1970-2002 album release.

Roger also thanked fans for supporting him over the years and has a special Christmas wish which will be available as a video feed from this website this week! Be sure to check it out!
