Matt Lauer today marked his 20th anniversary as anchor of the Today show on NBC.

Lauer made his debut alongside Katie Couric on January 6, 1997. This week, Couric (temporarily) returned to join him at the anchor desk in celebration of his 20-year milestone.

Also taking part were some celebrities. They sent in pre-taped tributes, with Elton saying ”congratulations” and Tom Hanks joking that the TV personality “did a service” for men when he ditched his hair “without any regrets.”

Kevin Hart and Annette Bening also sent video messages, and some of Matt’s co-hosts offered their picks for most memorable moments.
