The focus at the Billboard Music Awards is on contemporary acts, but five legendary veterans also landed nominations this year. All began their careers before 1980.

Aretha Franklin, who died in August, has been nominated for Top Gospel Album for her 1999 live album, Gospel Greats.

Queen is up for two awards: top rock artist and top soundtrack for Bohemian Rhapsody. The movie of the same name won four Oscars, more than any other film at the 91st Academy Awards.

In addition, Elton, the Rolling Stones and U2 are the contenders for top rock tour.
Kelly Clarkson hosts the 2019 Billboard Music Awards from the MGM Garden Arena in Las Vegas on May 1. The show will air live at 8 p.m. ET on NBC.
