Elton’s autobiography will be out next week, and in the book, he reveals that he had a frightening health scare.

“The doctors told David I was 24 hours away from death,” the pop vocalist recalled.

“I was taken to King Edward VII’s Hospital in London,” he explained, “where I had a scan. I was told that my condition was so serious, the hospital didn’t have the equipment to cope with it.”

At the time, the musician had just been successfully treated for prostate cancer. He’d returned from a tour of South Africa, where he had contracted a dangerous infection.

“If the South American tour had gone on for another day that would have been it: brown bread.”

In another very different story, Elton recalled a couple of actors nearly coming to blows over Princess Diana, while at one of his dinner parties.

Among others mentioned in Me are the Queen and John Lennon.
