Taron Egerton is in talks to play Sir Elton in a movie about the singer’s life.

The 27-year-old actor has entered into discussions with Rocketman director Dexter Fletcher and producer Matthew Vaughn about taking on the high-profile role, which was originally given to Tom Hardy four years ago.

Incidentally, Elton stars as a fictionalised version of himself in Egerton’s forthcoming film Kingsman: The Golden Circle, which is directed by Vaughn.

And this wouldn’t be the first time that Taron would be singing on the big screen. In the animated flick Sing, he portrayed Johnny, a Cockney gorilla, who sings some popular tunes. He covered Sam Smith’s Stay With Me and Elton’s I’m Still Standing, and called the numbers “beautiful bits of soul.”

He added: ”I love singing them.

”That’s my jam.”
